Photo of Jemima Maxwell

Jemima Maxwell was born in Downpatrick, Co Down, and grew up just outside of London. Her interest and education in art started early through the influence of her mother, a painter who studied under Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost and William Scott. At thirty, Jemima decided to paint full-time and received formal training in painting under Robin Child, who is distinguished for his lecturing, teaching, and commentary on modern art.

Jemima now divides her time between Roundstone, Connemara, and London. She is primarily interested in how colour not only generates a picture, but can also create space. In working with the challenges of surface and depth, texture and light, Jemima applies a variety of techniques to apply paint.

Jemima first exhibited in London in 2000, and since then, has been commissioned for numerous private and commercial collections. She is represented by Stronach Gallery Co Galway.
